Have you tried :
<mediaobject>
<imageobject>
<imagedata fileref="woody" align="right"/>
</imageobject>
</mediaobject>
With docbook-xsl-1.41 it produces the following HTML output
<div class="mediaobject"><img src="woody.png" align="right"></div>
(I can't check the print output right now)
Alternatively you can use the following approach for HTML only
If you have the following image element
<mediaobject>
<imageobject>
<imagedata fileref="woody"/>
</imageobject>
</mediaobject>
You can use a CSS with those line inside :
.mediaobject {
float: right;
}
