Subject: OASIS Emergency Interoperability Member Section Steering Committee Nomination Period Extended to 27 October 2008!
OASIS members: Two seats on the OASIS Emergency Interoperability (EI) Member Section (MS)Steering Committee [1] are up for election. All EI MS participants areinvited to nominate qualified candidates and/or serve on the SteeringCommittee. If you aren't currently active in the EI Member Section, now is agreat time to join.The OASIS Emergency Interoperability (EI) Member Section accelerates thedevelopment, adoption, application, and implementation of emergencyinteroperability and communications standards and related work. EI endeavorsto represent and serve the needs of all constituents, from practitioners totechnology providers and national, international and multinational oversightagencies. The nomination and election procedures for the SteeringCommittee is defined by the OASIS Member Section Policy [2] and the EIMember Section Rules of Procedure [3]. There are five elected members on the EI Steering Committee; eachserve a two-year term. The elections are staggered annually to assurecontinuity of leadership. The two candidates receiving the highest rankedvotes will each serve two-year terms. Any EI MS participant [4] may nominate or be nominated as a candidate forthe Steering Committee. Any OASIS member may join the EI MS [5]. The processis simple but it must be completed during the nomination period to submit anomination.Each EI MS Supporting Entity has one Qualified Elector who casts thesingle vote on behalf of his/her organization. Unless otherwise designated,the organization's Primary Representative serves as the Qualified Elector.The Primary Rep may defer the voting member role to another employee memberby sending an email to member-services@oasis-open.org; any such changeshould be in place before the ballot is cast. NOMINATION & ELECTION SCHEDULE Nominations will be held from 19-September-2008 through 27 - October-2008. The election will be held 29 -October-2008 through 12 – November -2008. NOMINATION PROCESS Any EI MS participant may nominate a candidate via email to:nominations@oasis-open.org. Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must: 1. Accept the nomination;2. Confirm his/her ability to meet the time commitments of the position(participation in a two-hour teleconference each month, promote the work ofthe Member Section).3. **Provide background information and a position statement describinghis/her qualifications and motivations for serving on the SteeringCommittee; and4. Be a participant in the EI Member Section. ELECTION PROCESS The two new Steering Committee members will be selected by the EI MSQualified Electors, using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process -Scottish Method [6]. STV considers each voter's ranked preference forcandidates, in order to more accurately reflect the wishes of theelectorate. EI MS Qualified Electors will be sent detailed votinginstructions separately. Results will be announced immediately after they are tabulated andconfirmed. We encourage all Emergency Interoperability participants to consider servingon the Steering Committee.
