Naming and Design Rules for UBL schema development
Noticing several discussions over the past few weeks in both the Energy
Interop and EMIX TCs relating to enabling evolution, consistency, and
extensibility of the standard being developed, I thought it might be
helpful for you to see how UBL approached some of these issues. The UBL
Naming and Design rules have been through multiple iterations/versions
and the 2.0 version is now available for public review. The NDRs
specify the rules for naming conventions and schema design. By just
looking at the checklist at the end of the document (which is a summary
of the rules without the explanatory text that makes up the rest of the
document) you can get an idea of the areas that were considered
important to address not only to support evolution of the standard, but
also to enable the development of tools for validation. You will find
links to the NDRs and supporting information in the email at

Best,
Anne
