I agree with the REST interface as well. Are you suggesting that all messages should use the GET method? As you may already know, you could also POST XML messages using REST.

As a specific example, I have an older product that has Python 2.3. To my definition, a simple client is one that is less than 200 LOC in Python 2.3 and uses SGML parsing.
I think a simple REST message is essential to low barrier to entry. As seen on Twitter (forwarded more for humor more than serious consideration):
