Notes from KMIP interop call, February 24

All, Here are my summary notes from last week's interop call. Please let me know of any additions/corrections you might have. Best Regards, Mathias KMIP interop 2011-02-24 Attending: John Clark (HP), Bob Nixon (Emulex), Tim Hudson (Cryptsoft), Bruce Rich (IBM), Alan Frindell (SafeNet), Bob Griffin (RSA), James Dzierzanowski (American Express), Denis Pochuev (SafeNet), Larry Hofer (Emulex), Gordon Arnold (IBM), Mathias Bjoerkqvist (IBM) Interop work and use cases planned for the following items based on discussion at the KMIP f2f last week: credential representation, client registration; functionality required by vendor-specific extensions used in the interop; key wrap; versioning; groups; access control. Priority and content depending on what we decide to put into next version of KMIP. Proposal from Tim to have use cases and interop before locking in new proposals. Incorporation of vendor products in an earlier stage of testing requested. Separation of different stages of interop: i) new items going into spec, validation, ii) private testing, iii) public testing, and iv) formal conformance. Currently, items i) through iii) are being done within this interop-group. We might consider releasing the next protocol version as a Committee Standard/Committee Draft instead of a full OASIS standard - in this case, we would not need Statements of Use. What path to take would depend, among others, on the acceptance in the industry of CS/CD vs OS, as well as schedule and time requirements for getting the next version out.
