Notes from KMIP interop call, November 3

All, Here are my summary notes from today's interop call. Please let me know of any additions/corrections you might have. Best Regards, Mathias KMIP interop 2011-11-03 Attending: Mathias, John, Krishna (IBM), John, Bryan (HP), John (Quintessence), Tim (Cryptsoft), Denis (SafeNet), Jane (OASIS) Discussed potential KMIP interop demo at RSA Conference 2012. Jane has been in contact with XACML and KMIP TCs, currently 5 vendors from the XACML TC committed to participate, looking for a similar number from the KMIP TC for a shared booth. In 2011 we had a 10x30 space (KMIP only), in 2010 it was a 20x20 "island booth" with all four sides open with 13 participants (three TCs). The 20x20 alternative is preferable. RSA has clamped down on who can participate, difficult to participate in "partner pavilion" if the company doesn't also have its own booth. Tim mentioned that RSA has dozens of companies in their own "partner pavilion". Quintessence, Cryptsoft interested in OASIS booth (no own booth), SafeNet in a similar position. Jane to check with Bob, Gordon and Steve for RSA's, IBM's and HP's situation. Getting together a list of potential companies usually helps to get marketing to lock in faster. Goal to have list of participants within the next 3 weeks (the earlier the better). What to demonstrate? Companies demonstrating their products in their own booths and connecting to other vendors in other booths (e.g. OASIS booth) mentioned earlier. Given that some companies will not have their own booths for 2012, starting point would be a similar demo as the two previous years (show clients executing use cases against servers from other vendors, show messages in TTLV and human-readable format, explain KMIP operations, objects and attributes). Focus more on showing keys moving between systems, e.g. scan visitors' badges and create a key for them (with their name scanned from their badge as the Name attribute) on a server and show it move to other vendors' servers. Also show existing products talking to interop servers to get keys.
