Which was the sentence I wanted to quote above. So

  ~Customers?$select=* 

will also return the Orders navigation property.

So let's:
(A) Decide whether $select=* adds only (data) properties or also navigation properties
(B) If the latter (current state of affairs), clean up the JSON spec to match its behavior with the defined expectation of $select=*
