David Wheeler commented on OFFICE-2615:
----------------------------------------
One slug is the mass that will accelerate by one foot per second squared when acted on by one pound-force. Typically a "pound" is a weight (like SI's "Newton"), so if you need to measure *mass* you need a different unit. The traditional measure for mass in English customary (Imperial) units is "slug" (like SI's "kilogram"). Some people use pound-mass, but in my experience, if a speaker says "pound" they mean "weight" (if the speaker understands the difference at all). If you think that inches/feet/yards/miles, pounds and tons, acres, and so on is overly complicated, you're absolutely right. Those of you who live in countries that exclusively use SI are lucky :-). Perhaps functions like CONVERT will help more people use SI.

> I've never heard of the unit "slug" before
> Since most other Imperial units have some definition and/or measurement in metric units, it would be nice to add it here as well.
