I created and merged a change draft for Issue #389, “toolExecutionSuccessful default too ambiguous”: https://github.com/oasis-tcs/sarif-spec/blob/master/Documents/ChangeDrafts/Accepted/sarif-v2.0-issue-389-toolExecutionSuccessful-default.docx The problem was that the spec’s description of the default value for invocation.toolExecutionSuccessful was too confusing, and extended discussion between Michael and James didn’t produce a better answer. Making the property required eliminates all ambiguity about whether the tool succeeded or failed. Please take a look at the change draft.
