CASE SENSITIVITY WHEN COMPARING IDENTIFIERS IN SMP



Sander raised an SMP conformance question regarding identifier case sensitivity handling, see:
  https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/bdxr/201608/msg00002.html .



The SMP specification defines the default handling of identifiers as case-insensitive while leaving it open for individual identifier schemes to require a different (case-sensitive)
  handling. Specifications of identifier schemes are outside the scope of SMP and are defined elsewhere.



Since SMP handles identifiers case-insensitively by default while allowing for identifier schemes to require a different handling, the question arose from SMP implementers whether
  an SMP implementation must support both case-sensitive and case-insensitive identifier handling to be conformant with the SMP specification.



Since SMP does require support of case-insensitive handling of identifiers while individual identifier schemes MAY require case-sensitive handling (from the SMP specification: an
  identifier specification or policy “MAY define its own requirements for case sensitivity handling”), it is required that an SMP implementation MUST support both case-sensitive AND case-insensitive handling to claim full compliance with the SMP specification.
