CGM Open Members --
Especially implementors, please give me your feedback on this question. I
am preparing some further clarifications for 2nd Release text, per recent
email dialogs.
In my last reply to Dieter, I quoted this new sentence, which is at the end
of the 3rd bullet of the last bullet list of section 3.2.1.1: "The
resulting view is a full-picture view, not a zoomed view."
This was decided at some meeting last year, to clarify the "move into view"
instruction.
Assertion/question. I believe that the same clarification applies to the
2nd bullet. The only difference between the 2nd bullet and the 3rd bullet
is the presence of the 'region' APS attribute, and the prescribed behavior
is to highlight the region (2nd) instead of the graphical primitives
(3rd). For the case incoming links which is described in the bullet list,
this is completely symmetrical then to the behavior for picking APS's,
which I believe was our intention.
Please let me know asap if you disagree with this.
For your convenience, I have attached the current best version of Second
Release Chapter 3 text, upon which I'm basing these final clarifying
editorial directives.
Regards,
-Lofton.

I want to call attention to a 2nd Release clarification which is already in
the draft 2nd Release text, and which was discussed several times (and
finalized, I think, either at the 6/00 Autotrol meeting or the 12/00 DC
meeting):
The third bullet, at the end of 3.2.1.1, now reads:
"If the object contains neither a view context nor a region attribute, the
viewer shall move the object into view and indicate
visually that the graphical primitives of the grobject are the target of
the link. The manner in which the viewer creates the new
display is viewer dependent. The resulting view is a full-picture view, not
a zoomed view."
Note the new last sentence to this paragraph, clarifying the ambiguity
which you noted above.
(Note. I see no problem with offering different behaviors as viewer
options. But the viewer has to be capable of the specified behavior, and
it should be the default, in the absence of user option setting.)
