Related to this - one thing we've been missing from Kavi - (now you
remind me!) - is the ability to mask email addresses away from
SPAMers.
I sigh heavily having to daily contend with the ugly results.
It seems no amount of tools really keep this menace at bay - but one
thing is clear - a sure fire way to garner spam is to post open text
email addresses in messages to OASIS TC lists.
It would be marvellous if we could have something that replaced email
addresses with some lookup reference -= such as that
would route legitimate replies back from TC members - but not allow spam
thru.
The reason why I'm thinking this - is in the FAQ we'd clearly like to
invite people to ask the TC directly - (the option they have right now
is via the Comment Page) - clearly anything of that ilk though is
immediately exploited - by spam posters - as I just found looking at my
TC Comments page - sad.
Intelligent minds obviously need to do something here. Perhaps
a Blog format would work nicely? That way the FAQ items each
become an entry in the blog - and we have ways for people to post via
the blog that does not expose the underlying email addresses of the TC
committee.
You then pull the RSS feed from the blog as a HTML table menu and
embed that into the Kavi page for the TC.
Simple and effective. I'm using this extensively - e.g. http://ebxmlforum.net news items
actually coming from blog.
Thank heaven for the @acm.org email address system and their
anti-spam system - that saves my main mailbox over 50+ emails daily
alone!
