This seminar will be a timely opportunity to discuss next steps for cyber security in the UK -
including key issues around preparedness , international cooperation and how the response is organised.

The conference is timed as implementation begins of the  EU directive on the security of Networks and Information Systems  (NIS Directive) and follows the recent publication of the  Cyber Security Export
Strategy .

It will be an opportunity for stakeholders, policymakers and regulators to discuss latest developments and priorities for key sectors involved in critical national infrastructure and their suppliers, and the wider group of organisations and individuals affected by the threats to cybersecurity.

Further sessions will  assess the work of the  National Cyber Security Centre  , as well as discussing key measures from  the
Secure by Design review  -
which outlines plans to build security  into
the design of internet connected devices.

Overall, areas for discussion include:
The threat to the UK
- assessing its scale, priorities for raising awareness and how policy and
business practice might best respond;
Preparedness and resilience  -  examining key issues in the implementation of the
NIS Directive ;
Addressing skills gaps  - what
should be the way forward for encouraging more people into careers in
cyber security and developing the necessary curricula in the education
system;
International collaboration  -
latest on the impact of the UK leaving the EU and the rise in state
sponsored cyber-crime, and how UK-international co-operation and
intelligence-sharing on cyber security might be further developed;
Standards and accreditation  -
examining the take-up and reputation of certification programmes ,
such as
Cyber Essentials
,
and the potential for wider adoption - as well
as discussion on standards development ;
and
SMEs
- assessing the challenges for smaller organisations
and position of smaller UK players in the cyber security sector .

This seminar will present an opportunity to engage with key policymakers and other interested parties, and is  CPD  certified (

). Places have been reserved by officials from the  DCMS ;  HMRC ;  Home Office ;  MoD  and the  National Crime Agency . Also due to attend are representatives from  ARM ;  Gemserv ;  Jisc ;  NCSC  and  Thales Cyber and Consulting (TC&C) .

Overall, we expect speakers and attendees to be a senior and informed group numbering 100, including Members of both Houses of Parliament, senior Government and regulatory officials involved in this area of public policy, businesses and professionals involved in cybersecurity, infrastructure owners and providers, as well as their suppliers and their advisors, academics and commentators, a wide range of organisations and individuals affected by the issues, and reporters from the national and trade media.

Output and About Us

A key output of the seminar will be a transcript of the proceedings, sent out around 12 working days after the event to all attendees and a wider group of Ministers and officials at DfT, DCMS, BEIS, Cabinet Office and other government departments; officials at Ofcom and other agencies affected by the issues; and Parliamentarians with a special interest in these areas. It will also be made available more widely. This document will include transcripts of all speeches and questions and answers sessions from the day, along with access to PowerPoint presentations, speakers’ biographies, an attendee list, an agenda, sponsor information, as well as any subsequent press coverage of the day and any articles or comment pieces submitted by delegates. It is made available subject to strict restrictions on public use, similar to those for Select Committee Uncorrected Evidence, and is intended to provide timely information for interested parties who are unable to attend on the day.

All delegates will receive complimentary PDF copies and are invited to contribute to the content.
