I've been reading through the dialog in the dita-users list, and find it quite fascinating … and reminiscent of something that Seth Park and Michael Priestley attempted to get started a couple years back:

I don't believe Seth and Michael were able to generate enough interest to gain traction for the idea back then. Perhaps the time is more opportune now?

I posted a question on dita-users that is related to our thinking on how to manage our parametric data:

We are considering the possibility (among others) of storing our dictionary in DITA, using DITA reuse techniques to inject symbols and XML schemas to validate the entered values in data sheets, for instance.

 

As you may have faced similar challenges, you are more than welcome to react on the thread.
