DOCBOOK-APPS: Problem with columns

I'm getting the following error message running the 1.34 version of the
Docbook stylesheets:

Don't know how to do adjust column widths with James Clark

I am running XT, as you undoubtedly guessed, which is the only processor I
can find that will actually run our large document set.  This message did
not appear in earlier versions of the stylesheets.  Does anyone have a
workaround for this?
