DOCBOOK-APPS: aspell and entities

I am using aspell --mode=sgml under linux to check my docbook documents and it works great, except that it bombs out whenever it hits an entity in the middle of a word, e.g. Amp&egrave;re. Actually it doesn't bomb on <QUOTE>you&apos;ll</QUOTE> though it doesn't recognize the word, either. Does anyone using aspell on docbook know of a workaround?

ispell -H does the same thing, as Redhat 7.1 uses aspell to simulate ispell.
