Appendix title appearance

Hi,

After reinstallation of the OS and setting XML catalogs according to
Bob Stayton's directions, I noticed that the appendix title is no
longer labeled with capital letters but numbers.
I use DTD 4.4 and XSL 1.69.0 with Oxygen 5.1 on JRE 1.4.2_08/Win XP.
My customization layer defines the auto-labeling for appendices:

<xsl:param name="appendix.autolabel">1</xsl:param>

So, in the TOC i see:
1. App. title

instead of:
A. App. title

Of course, in the text I see Appendix 1. instead of Appendix A.

Before the reinstallation everything worked fine with defaults.

Can anybody help/explain what's wrong with the stylesheet and where to
fix to the defaults?
