You can enhance the component.title attribute-set 
in your customization layer:

name="component.title.properties">
  <xsl:attribute 
name="text-align">end</xsl:attribute>

I want to change the chapter 
  heading so that it is right aligned.

Specially modifying templates is

Is this the only was to make the

Besides, I don’t know how to 
  create my own templates in my customization layer. My Customization layer
