Hi,

That sounds like you need to set the parameter 
'double.sided' to 1.  If that is zero (the default), then only a single 
page master is used.  When double.sided is zero, then $sequence template 
parameter is never 'even'. 

 

You'll also need to consider in your tests when 
$sequence is 'first', as that won't match on 'odd'.
