Here's an idea: If it turns out to be hard to wire up slide-style
graphics etc. in XSL-FO, it may be easier to render just the content
(tweaking fonts, positioning etc. in a customization layer as required),
and put in the graphical elements after the fact using a tool such as
pdftk's "background" operator. (Haven't tried it myself though.)
