Mike,
Again, kudos for an excellent article with good insights and conclusions. I
think you're on the mark.
One aspect that you identified is one I've personally been wrestling
with...and that is the CPP/CPA and the underlying assumption that companies
are going to establish electronic trading relationships on the fly and
dynamically. The Open-edi Framework also makes this assumption.
This assumption flies in the face of reality. Companies do business with
other companies (for the most part) AFTER establishing a business
relationship and determining the business rules of engagement. This idea
that companies are going to seek out unknown suppliers from whom to obtain
production materiel on the fly, etc., without any contractual obligations
for service levels, product quality, etc. is nuts.
Oh well....
