Yes , that was the case. So that was a "plan B" (which I did not publicize
beyond that list... and only suggesting in my team that they contact me if they
had lodging problems.)
Since then I understand the OASIS block has been extended.

The alternative hotel came up because the Mariott was out of rooms-- at
least that is what I recollect.

While nobody like to save a buck more than OASIS staff members, please
understand that our ability to provide a meeting room for your TCs in
New Orleans is entirely dependent on your use of sleeping rooms from the
OASIS block at the Marriott. If you do not stay at the Marriott, the
hotel will not give us the meeting room space. It's really that simple.
Dee put in a lot of work to negotiate a favorable rate and secure those
meeting rooms. The sooner you make your sleeping room reservations at
the Marriott, the easier her job will be.
