It also provides a very good opportunity to publicise the work of our committee

Please forward this report to the members of the OASIS Election & Voter

Services TC; requesting their comments over the next few weeks (before
the

end of August if possible).  Please ask them to send their comments
to me.

 

I have been asked to comment on the report directly to the Director of
the

US National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) and to the Director

of the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC).  Specifically, they
want to

know what standards from OASIS should be considered by the EAC's Technology

Guidelines Development Committee (on which I serve).  I would like
to be

able to help position the EML specification as a candidate for their

recommendation, but I need to be able to position it within the context
of

the voting process.  The EAC is interested not only in standards related
to

election systems, but also standards that relate to security and

authentication of the systems and data used in the voting process (voter

registration information, etc.).  They are also interested in the

conformance and implementation testing of systems and software used in
the

voting process.

 

They are also interested in experience from other countries who have

implemented secure voting systems, so the international participant comments

are especially appreciated.

 

For background information, members can review presentations made at a

symposium on voting systems from last December 2003.
