It's just a realtime paper scanner disguised as a pen!

 

Technology wise just the same as paper ballot with traditional
scanner - just made tiny!  Even returns the same type of data
points by pixel and coordinates as a scanner does.

 

The only Q I'd have is - can it scan barcodes to validate ballot
forms?  My assumption would be "yes".

You might be interested to read this latest development in voting
technology. Don't think at this stage we need amend EML to take account
of it.
