I'm not sure our paths have crossed before but I've been highly involved in all of these interactions.  I've been participating in the Technical Community of Interest around missing and found persons since the beginning - the group that involved NLM, Google, ARC, and others - to work on PFIF and other technical aspects of systems design in this area.  As I said, one of the compelling reasons for Sahana to join OASIS at this time is to be able to more directly contribute to EDXL-TEP and -TEC.  I'm personally thrilled that PFIF is being incorporated in this way so in the future it can be governed by a proper authority like OASIS.  Community or individually managed standards I think are fine for prototyping and small implementations, but once it starts to have global reach and impact in implementation - as we are seeing with Google Person Finder and the NLM People Locator system that is built on Sahana's Vesuvius software, having good procedures in place for updates, reviews, testing, etc., is essential.

I was also the flag-bearer for the use of EDXL-HAVE with UN, international organizations, and the good old USG during Haiti.  You may have had some input from Dominic Konig - our lead technical architect, who designed Sahana's Hospital Management System around the HAVE standard.  We expect Dominic to be joining the HAVE committee soon.

FYI, we worked with Sahana using HAVE during the Haiti earthquake response (we were Evolution Technologies, Inc. then “Evotec”).  The Hospital Availability Exchange (HAVE) subcommittee is applying feedback from that experience as input to HAVE 2.0.

I was also unable to join the call today.  First day of summer vacation for my kids and had to be at afternoon pickup.

 

But let me introduce myself - as I am new to the Committee.

 

I am Mark Prutsalis of the Sahana Software Foundation (SSF) - a non-profit organization that just joined OASIS last week.

 

We've been working on standards-based approaches to the design of Disaster Management systems for some time, and work closely with our partners at the US National Library of Medicine and their People Locator project - which is based on Sahana software.  I think some of you may know Glenn Pearson, who I believe has participated in some of the TEP meetings.

 

SSF's interest here will be in supporting the coming EDXL-TEP and -TEC standards with our systems for tracking missing and found persons.  I look forward to getting caught up on your work and participating fully in this work.
