RE: A bit more on the IETF, DHCP, and EDXL

Not sure if this is useful, but I think this may be useful WRT discussion 
on EDXL etc.

 

Just so you all know, there has been a recent (large) discussion on address 
for use in various Internet draft standards. The issue arose as part of the 
dialogue in moving a geo-enhanced DHCP protocol standard forward. Address 
(civic) is a key component of this draft internet standard. The work is being 
driven by the requirements of the location services and emergency response

The other document (the actual RFC) is located at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3825.txt . I provided guidance on 
the use of CRS and location. They did not want to use GML as XML is way to 
"expressive" for the number of bits available expressing location in a DHCP 
packet. However, the way the location is expressed is easily mapped into GML, 
EDXL or a CAP message once the packet is delivered to to its end point, 
such as a PSAP and then must be relayed onto responders, news organizations, and 
so forth.
