Ann / Vicki,
I hope the other, non-jargon; documents that I have already sent, helped
clarify the opportunity presented by an XML transcript standard.
It's certainly a challenge ensuring the non-technical, but key, "stack
holders", such as lawyers, court reporters, judges, etc., are able to
contribute suitably to the definition and requirements of a standard.
I believe that any Charter for the group and the definition and
requirements for the creation of a standard must be in plain English to
support the contribution of all the "stack holders".
There are few people that understand both the industry needs and the
technology and it's our responsibility to fill the gaps. That's why I
went to the trouble of writing the article for the NCRA magazine.
However, I can't do this alone.
There are a handful of people that see both sides and their contribution
is critical.
Please be aware that I'm, like you, just like you a member of the
LegalXML/OASIS community. I was a co-chair of the effort to progress
this work as part of LegalXML. We put in a lot of good work to create
the draft DTD so I felt the need to try and pass this work onto the
OASIS group for progress.
The work on a Transcript standard is to compelling not to be completed
but perhaps it's an idea ahead of its time.
Let's see what happens with the options I outlined in my previous email.
