[OASIS Issue Tracker] (MQTT-559) DISCONNECT duration 16-bit field does not allow long enough to sleep
[ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/MQTT-559?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel ]

Simon Johnson updated MQTT-559:
-------------------------------
Proposal: Resolved by issue MQTT-574 (was: Session Expiry Interval
A Four Byte Integer representing the Session Expiry Interval in seconds.
The format of the DISCONNECT message is illustrated in Table 24
âLength and MsgType: see Section 5.2.
âSession Expiry Interval: contains the value of the Session Expiry Interval timer; this field is optional and is included by a âsleepingâ client that wants to go the âasleepâ state, see Section 6.14 for further details.
Change table 24 Duration changed to Session Expiry Interval and the subcript changed from (2-3) to (2-5))

> Assuming the time unit of a DISCONNECTED sleep session is SECONDS, per the 1.2 specification, this only allows a sleeping period of 18 hours 12 minutes and 15 seconds. This is not enough for real-world LPWAN devices. We need to somehow accommodate more space for larger durations OR change the time unit of the duration field to be minutes (which would allow for ~45 days sleeping).
