Here are a few use cases

Energy
Cost Reporting involves a computation involving the HVAC setpoints for
the last 18 months and outdoor weather conditions.
System Integrator
or Custom Module Developer:
discovers what objects or services are available
from the OBIX systems already in place remotely. They probably search
based on function or name of object since they may not know exactly what is
available
saves those specifications (i.e. wsdl)
develops custom software/spreadsheets/etc. that her
application entails against those specs.
tests her application
deploys her application
remotely
System
A asks for something from System B that is going to take several hours for B to
achieve. B succeeds, fails, or does not respond at
all.
System
C, an external entity non-obix, indicates willingness to buy or option
electricity at price X. Energy Cost system evaluates energy contract to
see if we can currently meet the demand or option amount (i.e. if we we
have a take-or-pay contract). It quickly negotiates with other
building systems to go into low energy mode or if we are in a take-or-pay
contract, a mode to not use more than a certain amount.

I have attached an example of
stakeholder and use case scenarios for work order management. The
applicability to building automation would be the generation of work orders
related to preventive and scheduled maintenance for building assets. The
actual use cases are not included here, just the description of stakeholder
classes and Use Case Scenarios. The use case documentation is much more
extensive and include process flows, role definitions and data element
lists.

Glossary:
Enterprise -
Corporate wide enterprise that could include multiple buildings

Facility - A single building or campus
location.

many other methods of

- Contractor - Financial services

Facility engineer - Similar to facility engineer but is
external to the
enterprise so there are additional security concerns.
- Contractor -
Facility staff - Similar to facility staff but is external to
the
enterprise so there are additional security concerns.
- Energy meter
- Individual meter producing energy metering data. Some of
these may
produce XML out of the box, others may need a Energy Software
System to
collect the data and convert to XML.
- Energy Software System -
Collects data from many Energy meters and offers
the data up to the next
level, the Energy Collection system. At this level,
there could be
some aggregation of meter data performed.
- Energy Collection System
- Collects data from the Energy Software Systems
and individual Energy
meters. The data is then processed, aggregated, and
made available to the
Energy Reporting system.
- Energy Reporting System - Presents the
data from the Energy collection
system to the data users(actors at the
top of the list) in a secure, usable
format for their job
function.
