DB question

Greetings!

On the DB function, what is the purpose of the various formulas for 
other aspects of depreciation?

Are these normative or simply instructive for the curious or bored?

I haven't swept for all of these, still working on the spreadsheet which 
has gotten enough substance to start to look interesting.
