Number sequence issues

There seems to be two JIRA issues that probably should have a similar
resolution:

1120 reported by David King, assigned to David Wheeler
1186 reported by David King, assigned to Eike Rathke

both of them deal with NumberSequence or NumberSequenceList arguments
and the reporter asks what should happen with non-numbers in that
argument.

As far as I ma concerned the function definition deals only with
arguments after conversion so these are non-issues. Nevertheless it may
be necessary to improve the presentation to make that clearer.

PS 2170/1187 also deal with NumberSequence or NumberSequenceList but
have a different emphasis.
