Conversation on Cloud, Privacy, and Healthcare with OASIS and WEDI

OASIS and the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI)
 are exploring the possibility of collaborating on standards and/or 
profiles related to the use of cloud technology and U.S. HIPAA/HITECH 
Privacy and Security requirements. (See details on WEDI below.)

As a first step, we'd like to 

​set up an informal call open to anyone interested in the topic. The call would be an opportunity for:

WEDI to provide an overview of 
their white paper, "Using PHI & Cloud Computing: A Focus on the 
Intersection of Cloud Technology and Privacy/Security" (attached);

​

Representatives from relevant OASIS TCs to provide 

​brief ​
updates on their work in relation to the topic​;

​

WEDI and OASIS members to discuss possible areas of collaboration 
​(if any) ​
and next steps

​

Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) http://www.wedi.org/ advances the use of Health IT to improve healthcare information 
exchange in order to enhance the quality of care, improve efficiency and
 to reduce costs of the American healthcare system. Formed in 1991 by 
the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), WEDI was named in the 
1996 HIPAA legislation as an advisor to HHS and continues to fulfill 
that role today. Serving as a private and public industry solution to 
critical healthcare problems, WEDI is a coalition comprised of a 
cross-section of the healthcare industry: doctors, hospitals, health 
plans, laboratories, pharmacies, clearinghouses, dentists, vendors, 
government regulators and other industry stakeholders. WEDI
 has a Security & Privacy WG with Subgroups for Cloud Computing and 
Security & Privacy HIE. 

Joint WEDI-OASIS 
members include Deloitte, HL7, HP, IBM, Oracle, PwC, Siemens, and TIBCO.
