documents to reference to RELAX NG schemas. Although I have some sympathy,
I am not sure if such a mechanism is a good idea.

Another alternate is to follow the datatyping library approach.
I particularly like the idea that my RELAX schema resides in
an ebXML Registry, and then the content can contain a
reference to that via simple Registry reference and a UID
to identify the particular RELAX schema, and optionally its
version.
Obviously not everyone would want to use an ebXML Registry,
but then the reference model would support all the way from
a simple filesystem reference, thru to a Registry address.
