Re: [soa-rm] RE: [soa-rm-ra] GCN Article: "Making Sense of SOA"
I'm not sure how important GCN blogs are, compared to the quality of
the audience Dave, Ken and I address in the DM2 work and that I
address in NCOIC, but, in any event, despite the fact that I'm
actually associated with TOG SOA Ontology, I don't think it is very
useful. It has problems that I would point out to whomever might ask
me about it. I plan to do a de facto Ontology based on the RAF as
soon as it is finished, though it may take a couple of months, and I
will be recommending using that in preference to the TOG product.
Cheers,
Rex

at GCN. Simply posting a comment to the blog is a
possibility but I would be willing to do more because I’m
not sure how often people read blog comments unless the
topic is controversial.

First
what come to my mind is CIO Magazine, then, more popular in
IT, InfoQ.

Jeff,
Clearing email now. I don’t
usually read GCN. Where would be the appropriate
place the SOA-RM TC chair should write to make
your point and to begin publicizing the RAF?

Subject: [soa-rm-ra] GCN Article:
"Making Sense of SOA"
Colleagues,
This just published in Government Computer
News (GCN):
http://gcn.com/articles/2010/12/13/open-group-soa-ontology.aspx?s=gcndaily_141210
I’ve attached a copy of Chris
Harding’s SOA Ontology because I already have an
Open Group account. Note that this is now an
Technical Standard released by The Open Group.
Some of us have worked with Chris and The
Open Group SOA Work Group in the past. This is
evident in Appendix B of the standard. Yet
somewhere along the way, the SOA-RM has lost
visibility with the rest of the GCN community out
there. It was the FIRST technical standard
released from the open standards community that
captured the “essence†of the SOA paradigm,
but it’s now four years old so perhaps its
fallen off the radar of the various industry rags
out there. It’s going to be interesting to see
whether or not true harmonization will ensue from
our collective open standards efforts or whether
we continue on divergent paths with respect to
producing and releasing technical standards
related to the SOA paradigm.
Cheers…
