openoffice troubleshooting

I finally got a definitive answer to the question about whether
there is a dependency between openoffice and the java runtime: the
answer is No.  So according to my sources, it shouldn't make any
difference which version of the JRE you have installed (if any).

I also got the name of the person on the openoffice team with whom
to file bug reports (I'm thinking of Mark's problem in getting oo
installed): Michael Bemmer <>.
