interested in the answers myself), but with regard to this one:--

The UBL TC is strongly in favor of the genericode-based approach
proposed by Ken Holman, but we need feedback from prospective
implementers such as yourself to be sure that we've addressed the
basic requirements.  I'm very glad to see that someone is looking
at the proposal, which has the potential to solve a really big set
of problems.

(I'm not currently subscribed to xml-dev, so this answer won't
appear there.)
