I agree, but from administration point of view, I presume producers
administrators will want to determine which approach to take. For
example, a producer that lives in a traditional http proxy network, the
admins would want to take advantage of http level security constraints.
On the otherhand, for a producer living in a mostly web service
environment, the admins may want to use WSS to secure resources.

Agreed. But there is some cost (please see my reply to Andre in this
thread) for managing resourceIDs for URL-addressable resources.
