XDI TC Notes

Following are the notes of the unofficial telecon of the XDI TC held on:

The TC operates under a standing rule approved 17 July 2008 under which the TC does not hold regular official meetings and conducts all business by electronic ballot only. Unofficial weekly meetings are held to enable discussion among members but no business is conducted nor actions taken.

This document contains patterns for XDI literals, relations, contexts, and inner roots. We noted that often there are multiple possible JXD serializations for the same XDI graph (e.g. the choice whether to put a @type definition in the mapping block, or in the body). JSON-LD also often gives developers choice to serialize a graph in several different ways.

Phil said he liked the JXD format, because unlike previous formats it has the ability to cleanly separate type semantics from the values.

Markus pointed out that the pattern for inner roots in JXD (setting “@type” to “@graph”) effectively demonstrates one key difference between the XDI and RDF graph models, since in RDF it is not possible to have a nested graph as the object of a triple.
