RE: [xml-dev] Registered namespace prefixes

You haven't being paying much attention to the XML world over the past 5 years, have you? :)  
 
Namespaces in XML is not even in the top 5 when it comes to gratuitous standardization in the XML world.

Namespaces are, IMHO, the epitome of gratuitous standardization.
