From the code below we see that the XML document does contain quite a
bit of information that's simply not present in a CSV file. The mere act
of saving to CSV loses information compared to either the XML or native
binary Excel format. You're comparing oranges to grapefruits, and
concluding oranges are smaller, no surprise there. A fairer comparison
would eliminate the extra metadata Excel includes in its binary and XML
files but not in the CSV files, and then compare the compressed XML and
CSV formats.
