I suppose. But I wonder if the validation root will be understood the
same for all processors in these various scenarios?

hmm, I guess one can have something cryptospecified and overspecified
- the overspecification making the matter cryptic, but we should hope
that if something is cryptic it can be clarified by further
explanation, not explained by cutting explanation out (although with
XML Schema that hope may be rather naive)  ;)
