EXI: was : RE: [xml-dev] what's missing in XML? What's coming?

Curious Richard, could you expound on this ?
Why are you opposed to EXI ?
IMHO ...

I've read the specs about a year ago (briefly, not in detail).   I was not
then particularly happy with it because it seemed overly complicated.
Especially coming from a decade of mobile device programming where I belive
the full implementation of EXI would be highly inefficient ... However, I
didn't actually *try* any mobile implementations and would love to see real
world results.
Other than that, to me it just seems overly complex ... but I'm not really
'opposed' to it, more 'wait and see' ... 
Many people have tried different approaches to compressed (or 'efficient' )
XML and I think they may have achieved their goals, in isolation.   Having a
universally adopted spec & implementation I don't see as a bad thing unless
it doesn't accomplish its goals.
Similar to many specs/implementations that I personally don't use or like,
but am glad they exist as they promote the craft as a whole.


What are you opposed to in EXI ? The concept ? The details of the specs ?
the details of the implementation ?
