A little #XML news, for your US election day enjoyment:

Open data standards are used for electronic balloting in live
elections in the Netherlands and elsewhere, using OASIS EML (the
"Election Markup Language"), endorsed by the Council of Europe.  Now
IEEE is adapting EML for use in the US (the "P1622 project"), to get
past today's completely proprietary, one-company-owns-it systems.
