Granted, but for a long time it was heresy to question XML as the one true 
religion for data interchange.  JSON is only now emerging from that shadow, 
and I'm pretty sure that even that can be improved upon.

The trouble is that it's almost too easy to define a better format for 
data-oriented applications, and everyone and his dog proposes one.  In the 
end all they can get agreement on is to use someone else's second hand goods 
on the basis that it promotes re-use and cost savings.
