With redacting it is my impression that there is a reliance on the technology displaying the document to not show that information.
This places a trust requirement on the display technology and leaves the sensitive infomation effectively unprotected.
It may be more secure to use encryption to protect sensitive information.
This way there is more control on who can access the sensitive information, even in the presence of malignant display technology.
Just a thought.
