I'd like to briefly follow up on this since I found that most of my problem was due to the SVG-images and
not docbook.
The images lacked a viewBox-Attribute in the SVG-root element. So my editor (xmlMind) and my XSL-FO-engine
(XEP) put a margin to the right and at the bottom of the image. That resulted in a wide gap between figure
and title (which I've place below the figure).

Just in case someone else runs into that problem...
