[NEW ISSUE] Assembly Specification should state that Services andReferences typed by Local interface cannot have Bindings
Raiser: Mike Edwards Target: SCA Assembly Specification - sca-assembly-1.1-spec-cd01-rev2.doc Description: Services which implement Local interfaces can only be called from References of Components that are running in the same operating system process as the service provider component. (Lines 2423 - 2425). Given this, it is hard to see what purpose a Binding would serve if attached to either the Service or to the Reference involved in such a Wire. There are no obvious transport protocols or wire formats that can be used to influence the way in which the wire is implemented. A Binding in these circumstances cannot serve any useful purpose. Proposal: Forbid the attachment of a Binding to services and references which are typed by a Local interface. Add the following after line 2426: <service/> and <reference/> elements which are typed by a Local interface MUST NOT contain <binding/> child elements (applies to service and reference elements of componentType, constrainingType, component and composites).
