coordinating cars for Pasadena ftf

I've got flights and am booked at the Old Pasadena Courtyard but was wondering about need for a rental car.  Car for 5 days is $250 + gas (another $250?).  Who else will have a car and does it make sense for some subset of us to just get a taxi to and from the airport and carpool during the week?  I'm willing to be one of those getting a car but it seems a waste to either drive separately or have the rental car just parked at the hotel.
