Pasadena is quite a drive from LAX airport so a Taxi would 
cost some bucks.  I highly recommend renting a car because this is, 
afterall, Los Angeles!  An alternative would be to hire a Super Shuttle 
from the LA airport to your hotel and then ride with some others during the 
week.  But all said, it's really tough to get around this place without 
your own wheels.
